Programs and Services:

How do I refer someone?

Alcohol and drug abuse along with gambling behaviours of one person can impact others; often friends, co-workers and family members recognize signs before the problem begins.Approach the person with your concerns about their behaviour. If they willingly admit they are having difficulties, offer your support. Have them call us at the Morning Sky Centre or speak to the local addictions counsellor. You can also suggest they attend a 12-step meeting or you can take them,.Support is also available for you; the one concerned or impacted by someone else's behaviour

You may want to consider the following:
    • Get information, either pamphlets or videos from your local addictions worker, this will help you understand the impact of alcohol and drug abuse and problem gambling and that support is available.
    • Stop hiding the problem, it will continue if it is hidden or covered up.
    • Seek assistance and support for yourself: whether or not the person gambling seeks help, you can get support to understand and manage the situation.
    • Morning Sky Centre offers information sessions, individual and family counseling.
    • There are 12 Step programs, such as Alanon and or Gam Anon for family members or friends.
    • The choices you make to take care of yourself will not only help you but also the rest of the family and also the person with the gambling problem.
    • For more information about our programs contact us by phone at 1-780-943-3227.
    • For information on 12 step meetings in your community contact your local addictions worker or consult the phone book.
