Program
Overview:
The Morning Sky
Treatment Centre holds a 42 day Inpatient/Outpatient program that
covers
6 phases in the 6 week period. This outline is
provided to give our supports on the subjects and activities that
are scheduled and their purpose for facilitating healing and recovery
of the client. The impact of the person’s holistic health and
the effects of their environment will also be explored through groups/individual
discussions and self-discovery. All presentations are delivered in
a therapeutic and professional environment.
Phase
1 – Creating
a Safe Environment to Heal
This phase provides the individual with information about the program,
orientation and about their levels of involvement with addictions
and living an unhealthy lifestyle. During this period, trust and
rapport are established. The Medicine Wheel is used consistently
throughout the program to identify how to successfully manage our
life by learning its four fundamentals: Physical, Emotional, Mental
and Spiritual.
Objective:

To develop trust with clients and staff.

To develop group cohesion.

To outline the process clients can expect through the program.

To understand the cycle of addictions.
-
To create a safe, supportive environment for clients to heal.
-
To
begin process of healing through the medicine wheel.
Phase
II – Addressing Harmful Behaviors
This phase addresses the
client’s awareness on destructive
behaviors and how defense mechanisms can impede or enhance the stages
of change. This week focuses on beliefs, learnt behaviors, and how
unhealthy attitudes can hinder one’s healing process.
Objective:
-
To create awareness of behaviors, attitudes and how it effects relationships
with family, friends and the community.

To identify the various influences in life.
-
To accept life and take responsibility for choices and behaviors.
-
To acknowledge specific issues from the past and connect to the present
behaviors.
-
To address “old beliefs” and create healthy beliefs.
Phase
III – Re – identification
At this stage the clients are taught about their uniqueness and distinctiveness
as Native men/women. The client begins to gain glimpses at the
lost elements of the true, more autonomous and spontaneous self – By
integrating culture, values and beliefs, the healing process begins.
A Sweat Lodge ceremony can be scheduled as an additional healing
method.
Objectives:
-
Clients re-establish their personal identity, self esteem and self
worth.

Understand personal inadequacies and the tragic effects of the family
of origins pathology.

The client learns to discriminate between shame and guilt.
-
Develops interpersonal boundaries that are needed to restore personal
autonomy and the possibility of true intimacy.

To accept a supportive team to assist in the healing work.
Phase
IV – Addressing
Core Issues (looking at root issues)
At this stage, clients discover a “presenting problem” is
nothing more than a symptom of a core issue, a much deeper, much
more important under lying problem. Most of us have one or more core
issues or challenges which surface repeatedly over the course of
our lives. These issues are usually rooted in deep unexpressed fears
and issues. Once the core issue is discovered, it can usually be
broken down into specific events and handled routinely.
Objective:
-
Clients do personal inventory on themselves and how they react to
the realities of life.

Clients cultivate an awareness of how and when your core issue is
triggered.

To accept and understand all parts of self and open doors to transformation
of a more beautiful, deeper essence.

To understand how their family dynamics have affected their lives.
Phase
V – Re-integration – (transition)
This phase involves the clients healing process and creates steps
in how they can leave behind much of the shame, pain, suffering
and anger that has unconsciously dominated much of his/her life.
At the same time the true self becomes consolidated, bringing it
autonomy, self-esteem, improved integration, spontaneity, and guilt
free boundary management skills. The client regains the personal
power of self- acceptance and personal integrity.
Objective:

To review identified issues and develop ways to overcome problems.

To create holistic self care plans.

To assist clients in developing healthy and achievable goals.

To assist clients in acknowledging and addressing issues related
to self, family, relationships and community.

To develop skills and enhance quality of life by enjoying life in
a healthy and productive manner.
Phase
VI - Relapse Prevention & Life Skills
This
phase provides information for clients to
identify things that put us ‘at risk’ for
relapse, so we can utilize various recovery
tools on an ongoing basis. And by becoming
familiar with
our triggers and shortcomings, we can plan
for a successful life.
The life skills program is effective in assisting clients develop
essential skills found to significantly reduce addictions, know
and understand themselves better and to live life more consciously.
Clients attain personal satisfaction, fulfillment and establish
a firm foundation of self.
Objective:
-
To assist clients to develop a realistic relapse prevention and
after care plan.

To assist clients to identify and plan high-risk situations.
-
To assist clients to develop healthy support systems.
-
To develop a healthy Personal Stress Management Plan.
-
To begin process of critical thinking instead of reacting emotionally
to a problem.

To assist the client to
meet the challenges of today’s complicated
world by building boundaries and a solid foundation of self-knowledge,
self-love and self-confidence.

To assist clients to develop a healthy self-concept through self-assessment,
planning and effort
